Penha Longa Resort is a historic estate that traces its origins back to the 14th century when both hermit monks and Lisbon royalty called the tranquil Sintra Mountains home. Today, guests will experience the very same sense of beauty and calm at one of the top resorts 40 minutes from Lisbon.
Penha Longa’s legendary surroundings feature 194 guest rooms, 8 innovative restaurants offering a variety of cuisine including 2 Michelin Star restaurants, 27 World Class golf holes designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., Spa with over 1,500 sqm and numerous indoor and outdoor recreational activities.
When Robert Trent Jones, Jr. set out to design the course at this Portugal golf hotel, he had the breathtaking scenery of Sintra to inspire him. His 27-hole course takes players through the surrounding hills and the resort itself, offering three circuits filled with bold drives, courageous approaches, and artful greens.
The Atlantic Championship golf course opened in 1992 and staged the Portuguese Open two years later. Every hole is different and exciting, with Robert Trent Jones using the contours to great effect.
The course has a superb flow to it and the views throughout are magnificent, especially away to the coastal towns of Cascais and Estoril and to the blue Atlantic. The Monastery course, also designed by Jones, is the perfect complement to its sister. The 9-hole course offers moderated challenges which suit all levels of players.
The Penha Longa Monastery golf is also characterized by fast greens and narrow fairways and benefits from the stunning landscapes of the surrounding national park.
