Tour Lake Como on this day. First meet with a guide to visit of the town of Como including a walking tour to discover the historic heritage and architectural style. Before noon, board a private motor boat for a cruise on the Como branch of the lake. Lunch on board. From the motor ship you will be able to admire the villas and parks of Cernobbio and Moltrasio (Villa d’Este, Villa Erba, Villa Pizzo, Villa Versace), the typical villages on the lake shores and such historic places as the Isola Comacina which is a tiny island in the lake.
In the afternoon stop in Bellagio, also known as the “pearl” of Lake Como for its position at the top of the promontory that separates the 2 south branches of Lake Como. Enjoy a walking tour to the Punta Spartivento and visit of the historic center of the village and shopping in the boutiques along the steep narrow roads crisscrossing the village. Morning is at leisure then noon departure to Switzerland by train and back by boat (ferry boat): The Centovalley Train or Lake Maggiore Express is a day’s round trip by narrow gauge train and ferry. Depart Stresa on regular train and travel as far as Domodossola where you change on to the quaint narrow gauge “Centovalley” train – one of the World’s most scenic journeys, it winds its way slowly up to reach the many bridges and viaducts that span the valleys. There are spectacular views from the train and you can even stop off for a short time in one of the many rustic villages that the train passes through. The Centovalley Train takes you to Locarno, Switzerland at the northern tip of Lake Maggiore. In Locarno catch the ferry to travel on to Ascona Switzerland and spend time exploring this pretty artist’s town. Then catch the late ferry back to Stresa, relaxing on the outside deck as you cruise between the many lakeside towns.
Visit the famous Borromees Islands. Depart from the hotel’s private dock and take a 10 minute boat journey to Isola Bella, one of the Borromean Islands of Lake Maggiore. Isola Bella is entirely occupied by the Palazzo Borromeo and its world famous gardens. In 1632, Count Vitaliano Borromeo began the construction of the monumental Baroque palace and the majestic and scenic gardens, which have made the island famous. Then proceed to another of the island’s the Isola Madre, with its great garden.
