The Bahamas are officially known as the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, consists of more than 3,000 islands, cays, and islets. The Bahamas are located in the Atlantic Ocean north of the Dominican Republic and just southeast of Florida. The Bahamas are the closets islands in the Caribbean to the US although travelers always feel far more removed. Once legendary as the stomping grounds for famous pirates such as Blackbeard today the Bahamas are a great setting for Caribbean golf vacations.
The best islands in the Bahamas for golf are Nassau and its neighbor Paradise Island plus Grand Bahama, the largest in the chain. Grand Bahama boasts the Reef course at the Grand Lucayan Resort while Paradise Island has the Ocean Club.
Besides the Ocean Club and Reef Course, Ernie Els has designed a golf course called the Albany Club which is a 7,400 yard links-style course playing through windswept dunes. Albany is also on Nassau in the Bahamas and is located within an exclusive private oceanfront community about 45 minutes from the Ocean Club and Paradise Island. These 5 star resort cottages and private home vacation rentals are available at Albany with preferred play on the Els golf course.
